Wildfire in Colorado Grows to More Than 700 Acres

GOLDEN, Colo. -- A wildfire burning in the foothills west of Golden has grown to over 700 acres as the fire danger in many parts of Colorado remains high.

The fire started Sunday and quickly grew in warm, dry conditions. The fire was 15 percent contained Monday.

Firefighters were working to contain the blaze on the east side to prevent it from moving into a subdivision containing about 250 homes. People there have been warned to be ready to evacuate in case the fire spreads

U.S. 6 was closed because of the fire but has reopened.

Fire weather watches and red flag warnings have been issued along the Front Range, the Eastern Plains and southwestern Colorado.
