WASHINGTON – PBS says it was contacted by the same fake Muslim group that arranged a meeting with an NPR executive and secretly videotaped him calling the tea party racist.
PBS spokeswoman Anne Bentley said Wednesday that they had an initial conversation with the Muslim Education Action Center but had concerns about the group. She says a PBS executive was contacted, but when PBS couldn't confirm the organization's credentials, they halted discussions.
The Muslim Education Action Center is tied to conservative activist James O'Keefe. He posted a video online Tuesday of NPR executive Ron Schiller meeting with the fake Muslim group. The tape led to the resignation of NPR's chief executive, Vivian Schiller.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says it supports taxpayer funding for NPR, despite the shake-up at the news organization.
White House spokesman Jay Carney said Wednesday that both Democratic and Republican presidents have supported such funding in the past and that there remains a need to support public broadcasting.
Carney's comments came after the chief executive of NPR resigned under pressure. Vivian Schiller stepped down when one of her executives was caught on a hidden camera calling the tea party racist.
Those comments from NPR executive Ron Schiller came as he was meeting with a fake Muslim group with ties to a conservative activist. The meeting was secretly recorded and posted on the Internet on Tuesday.
