SAN FRANCISCO – The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating allegations that a group of San Francisco police officers conducted searches at a residential hotel without warrants.
The FBI's involvement comes after San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi said Wednesday that his office had video evidence showing six narcotics officers raiding residents' rooms without search warrants or consent. Adachi also says the officers falsified their reports.
FBI spokeswoman Julianne Sohn on Friday confirmed that the bureau would be conducting an independent investigation. Police and the San Francisco District Attorney's Office are also investigating.
Three people were arrested in searches on Dec. 23 and Jan. 5, but a judge dismissed one case and prosecutors two other cases, including a misdemeanor case on Thursday.
The six officers involved in the alleged searches have been reassigned.
