Ex-Ky. lawmaker pleads guilty to murder

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A former Kentucky state representative has pleaded guilty to murder in the shooting of his ex-fiancé and has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Steve Nunn, the son of former Kentucky Gov. Louie B. Nunn, pleaded guilty Tuesday to fatally shooting 29-year-old Amanda Ross outside her Lexington townhouse on Sept. 11, 2009. He was sentenced by Judge Pamela Goodwine.

Ross had obtained an emergency protective order against Nunn.

Her slaying prompted Kentucky lawmakers to enact a law that allows counties to require those with domestic orders against them to wear GPS tracking devices.

The 58-year-old Nunn, a Republican, spent some 15 years in the state legislature and ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2003. He lost a re-election bid in 2006. The guilty plea won't preclude him from collecting a state pension of more than $20,000 a year.
