Best and worst parts of US economy, at a glance

The economy grew by 2.9 percent last year, the fastest pace in five years. The improvement was driven by higher exports and greater spending by businesses and consumers. Still, that's not a fast enough pace to significantly reduce the unemployment rate, which was 9.4 percent in December. That's down from 9.9 percent a year earlier.
