Attorney: Chicago bomb suspect 'remorseful'

CHICAGO – A lawyer for a Lebanese immigrant accused of placing a backpack he thought contained a bomb near Chicago's Wrigley Field last year says his client is sorry about what happened.

The attorney for Sami Samir Hassoun spoke to reporters Wednesday after a brief status hearing, during which both sides said they're still reviewing evidence.

Asked how his 22-year-old client is doing in jail, Myron Auerbach said he's doing well. But he added that Hassoun is feeling "remorseful."

There's no trial date yet, but Auerbach says one could start by late summer or fall.

Hassoun has pleaded not guilty, including to a charge of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. If convicted of that, he could face life in prison.
